This century old carriage house that had been collecting dust got a stunning transformation into a charming one bedroom in law suite. The clients of this renovation wanted to maintain the exterior façade and historic charm of the existing building.
A small bump out was necessary on the second floor to create proper headroom. Otherwise, the exterior maintained its charm. On the interior, the hardwood floors that ran throughout the second floor were salvaged and re-stained to preserve some of the history.
The interior of the carriage house had a complete transformation. Everything was stripped down to the stud walls, repaired, reinstalled, and brought up to current building code. We made sure to salvage the original hardwood floors on the second story. The carriage house includes main floor laundry and storage access, as well as mechanical. A hand made custom staircase leads you onto the second story. The open concept kitchen, eating and living area allow plenty of space to relax and entertain. The new dormer brings in lots of natural light into the living area and bedroom. Finally, the vaulted ceiling opens up the entire space, giving the client plenty of room to move.
